Patrolowiec typu Kormoran 1923-1925 (9 szt.)
Patrolowce
typu Mewa (PB-1 1903) dożywają już
swoich lat. W celu ich zastąpienia podjęto budowę 9 nowych jednostek. Pierwsze
3 wejdą do służby jeszcze w tym roku i w związku z tym stary patrolowiec Wydrzyk (PB-2 1903) zostanie skreślony z
listy floty (najstarsza Mewa została
jeszcze w zeszłym roku sprzedana Chinom). Do końca roku 1925, w miarę oddawania
do użytku kolejnych nowych jednostek, wszystkie stare zostaną przeniesione do
kolonii lub wycofane.
Okręty
typu Kormoran prócz typowych zadań
patrolowych dodatkowo mogą skutecznie zwalczać OP. Poza uzbrojeniem pop,
jednostki dysponują odpowiednią do swej wielkości artylerią. Szybkość jest
wystarczająca dla stawianych przed okrętami zadań, a zasięg – jak dla jednostek
przeznaczonych na Bałtyk – bardzo duży. Zasięg ten ma umożliwić patrolowcom
stosunkowo długie krążenie w patrolowanym rejonie bez konieczności zawijania do
portu. Mając to na uwadze, zapewniono załodze bardzo dobre warunki socjalne. Dzielność
morska okrętów jest dobra i całkowicie wystarczająca dla Bałtyku.
