Niszczyciel eskortowy typu Mazury 1927-1928 (8 szt.)
Celem
złagodzenia problemu niedoboru niszczycieli, wdrożono budowę serii niewielkich
jednostek, które ja nazywam niszczycielami eskortowymi. Jeśli kogoś razi ta
lekko ahistoryczna nazwa podklasy, to może uważać te okręty po prostu za małe
niszczyciele.
Głównym zadaniem prezentowanych okrętów jest eskortowanie
konwojów lub zespołów wielkich okrętów bojowych (okręty liniowe, lotniskowce
{in spe}). Dla realizacji tych celów zamontowano na tych niszczycielach silne
uzbrojenie pop oraz całkiem przyzwoite plot. Aby jednak w pełni zasługiwały na
miano niszczycieli, nie zrezygnowano również z uzbrojenia torpedowego. Prędkość
i zasięg omawianych jednostek sytuuje je pomiędzy klasycznymi niszczycielami, a
eskortowcami. Godne uwagi są dobre - jak na niszczyciele – właściwości morskie.
Jeśli ktoś odniesie wrażenie jakby „niedokończonej”
sylwetki, to informuję, że spowodowane jest to planowaną już teraz modernizacją,
przewidywaną na koniec lat 30-tych. Zdaję sobie sprawę, że tak daleko idąca
antycypacja może budzić sprzeciw, ale po prostu nie chciałem sobie utrudniać
pracy w przyszłości.
