Holownik oceaniczny typu Mamut 1926-1927 (2 szt.)
Po długotrwałym połogu narodził się wreszcie oceaniczny
holownik z funkcją ratowniczą. Okręt przeznaczony jest do towarzyszenia dużym
zespołom okrętów lub ważnym konwojom w celu udzielenia pomocy lub ewakuacji
jednostek uszkodzonych.
Moc maszyn pozwala naszemu holownikowi holować samodzielnie
jednostki praktycznie bez ograniczenia tonażu. Armatki wodne i zespoły pomp
pożarowych i odwadniających stanowią główne wyposażenie ratunkowe. Na holowniku
zaokrętowana jest także silna grupa
przeciwawaryjna, którą można w razie potrzeby przerzucić na ratowaną
jednostkę. Okręt posiada również obszerne pomieszczenia dla rozbitków.
Stosunkowo duża szybkość i zasięg umożliwia towarzyszenie
zespołom okrętów bojowych, oczywiście nie w „pierwszej linii” Uzbrojenie jak na
tę wielkość okrętu jest raczej symboliczne i służy przede wszystkim do samoobrony
przed samolotami i wynurzonymi okrętami podwodnymi nieprzyjaciela.
