Kuter
ten jest rozwinięciem typu KD-1 i
podobnie jak jego poprzednik służy wyłącznie do desantowania na brzeg piechoty i/lub
zaopatrzenia, nie mając takich możliwości w stosunku do pojazdów.
Zgodnie
z ogólnymi założeniami, jednostka ta ma być „łącznikiem” pomiędzy
transportowcami desantowymi, przewożąc na brzeg głównie zaopatrzenie oraz
pododdziały tyłowe, a z powrotem rannych, ewentualnie jeńców. Od swojego
poprzednika różni się większą o 0,3 m szerokością oraz innymi mało istotnymi
szczegółami.
Przewidziano
tu możliwość zdjęcia z okrętów, zbędnych w służbie transportowej nkm-ów oraz przekazania
ich na ląd, celem wzmocnienia siły ognia desantowanych oddziałów.
