Okręty
przeznaczone do dostarczania na brzeg zaopatrzenia, sprzętu i pododdziałów
tyłowych w drugim lub trzecim rzucie desantu, kiedy przyczółek jest już
definitywnie opanowany. Przewiduje się ich wykorzystanie na rzecz dywizji
piechoty lub pancernych.
Transportowce
typu Sund mogą zabrać 3 900 t
zaopatrzenia i 570 żołnierzy. Ładunki o dużym ciężarze lub gabarytach są
przewożone w obszernej ładowni i przeładowywane żurawiami, a „drobnica” umieszczana
w kilku mniejszych ładowniach i przeładowywana (podobnie jak „żywy towar”) poprzez
furty burtowe. Następnie ładunki są przewożone i wyładowywane na nieurządzony brzeg
za pomocą 15 motorowych łodzi desantowych (LB). Łodzie te, pozbawione stałego
uzbrojenia, nie są samodzielnymi okrętami wojennymi w formalnym rozumieniu tego
pojęcia, stanowiąc jedynie integralne wyposażenie transportowców. Posiadają one
9 tn wyporności i mogą zabrać do 4 t ładunku lub do 40 osób.
Ponieważ
prezentowane okręty - wchodząc do działania w dalszych rzutach desantu - nie są
zobowiązane do wsparcia ogniowego lądujących oddziałów, ich uzbrojenie pełni prawie
wyłącznie funkcję plot. Prędkość, zasięg i własności morskie są adekwatne do
wykonywanych zadań.
